Online Reputation Assignment

In person, Dalia describes herself as a private person, so she wished me good luck on my search to find information about her. Thanks to this Social Media class, she is now less of a private person than she thought. I found the most information about her from her Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.
Dalia’s birthday is on January 3rd. Her hometown is San Salvador, El Salvador. She currently lives in North Logan. Dalia is bi-lingual, speaking both Spanish and English. Her understanding and background in both Hispanic and American cultures have fueled her interests. Before transferring to Utah State, Dalia studied at Universidad Centroamericana Jose Simeon Canas in El Salvador. She is currently studying Communication Studies, Global Communications and Latinx Studies at Utah State University. She will be graduating in 2018. She states in her bio on her LinkedIn page that these majors give her great satisfaction because she is able to help people of all different backgrounds, languages and cultures in many different ways.
Dalia is first and foremost a mother to her son, Danny. She states on her LinkedIn page that having a son with disabilities helps her to understand the medical, educational, and social systems that are required of a disabled person. She has used her personal experience in helping her son in her professional life as well. She currently works for the Center for Persons with Disabilities (CPD) at Utah State University as a Spanish interpreter. She has worked with the CPD for five years and seems to love her job. On her Facebook page, she posted a picture of her desk at work and her coworkers had decorated it for her. It appears that she gets to work with some pretty great people.

I don’t know how this woman has anytime to eat or sleep after working, going to school, and being a mother to a son with disabilities but somehow, she finds time. Her desire to help others has motivated her to get involved in campaigns on USU’s campus. She recently volunteered with the “Beards for Cancer” campaign to help improve the lives of those that have cancer and their families. Specifically, this campaign helped two individuals that were suffering from terminal cancer. In her description of this project she states, “We were 5 individuals that were trying to give a little happiness away”.

Dalia also states on her Facebook profile that she is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. On her timeline she had posted many different quotes by church leaders and excerpts from the scriptures. She also had a quote by the late prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley as her cover photo on her Google+ profile.
Even though I was able to find a good amount of information about Dalia, her life is relatively private in comparison to many other social media users. This assignment forced me to learn about Dalia on a deeper level than I would have just sitting next to her in class one night a week. I am amazed at how much she does in the service of others. I can tell from all of her social media platforms that she is motivated by helping and learning about others. Learning more about her has made me think about what more I can do to service others and to be more involved on campus.
